^ I have a Rishell phonograph that is similarly messy. It appears someone tried to cut it in half to make a table top then filled it with spackle. It does have a lovely grill so I am thinking when I get around to it I may just play with some really cool burled veneer or something. It won't ever be worth much so I think I may just dress it up.

I have an upright "Royal Talking Machine of Chicago" that has serious problems, has been refinished in the past, etc. It was one of my first machines, before I understood the effort involved in fixing it and its low value. It provides some record storage, but otherwise only takes up space. I still have a difficult time throwing any phonograph out though... :(

Haha I am such a sucker for saving machines too. I almost did drive 30min into the city for a vague ad about a phonograph console in an alley. The hubs had to remind me that could mean anything up to the 1960s+ and that is would likely be gone by the time we got there.
