Oops!
In the middle of giving my Triumph a bath (GoJo), a spring fell out of the what-I-thought-was-empty case.
Any ideas where it might go on this machine (or do you think it was a stow-away?
(Some one changed the case color so now it is kind of part red oak and part green oak. [The case, not the spring.] Didn't make the spots where someone installed handles any less obvious, either!)

My offhand guess is it's maybe a belt tensioner spring.
That is just a wild guess though.
By the way does your machine mistrack when playing both
2 and 4 minute records?

I suspect it was our friend, Mr. Sun.

Seriously, some types of woods will react with sunlight over time and go really red. Aniline dyes too, can be susceptible to fading. I kind of like the fact your machine (which is looking really good), displays its war scars with dignity. I too would love to see what was once mounted there.

That spring doesn't belong with the Triumph. It's a stowaway.
Triumphs don't use use spring-loaded idler wheels. The motor itself can be raised and lowered slightly via an adjustment screw, and this adjusts the belt tension.

That spring is the same style as on cygnet horn crane other than it is a bit heavy duty like for a trampoline!

I'd suggest making a new thread with all the questions related to your machine...
