I did find however, the mounting plate screws for the lower frame are kinked to the side bad, idk who did that but they looked stripped. Screw it though, it works good!! The model S does sound more full than my old C's and H's I have lying around.

I used some oil, and a magnetic tipped Phillips screw driver and turned it inside the end of the shaft. I took it out and cleaned it a few times as it collected all the scarring. Put the bearing in and viola! Spun like a top. Needs no help to start, plays smooth. I haven't checked a whole record yet cause the baby and wife are sleeping, but I think I got it now!

Oh and btw guys, I work at a chemical and power facility. We have a lot of turbines etc and use this little oiler bottle for a lot of stuff on them. It's what I use on my edisons and it'll never rust...and is slicker than greased owl [crap]. I'll show y'all a pic in case y'all are looking for something else. Has a 14" spout as well which is nice to reach inside the gears.

Hmm. It still sounds a little under the weather to me. Dragging pretty bad.

You are getting there. It is a nice model F. Something is out of adjustment or dragging. Try the half nut adjustment and oil all the bearings. You still could have some drag at the bronze bearing. Good luck. also run it a few times to seat every thing. Tom

What do y'all mean by dragging? Should I raise or lower the feed pawl, screw out or in? Confusing lol

What do you mean?

The bearings should be very oiled. But I forgot to put more oil on the bronze mandrel bearing. I'll do that when I get home. Never heard the term dragging.

It rather sounds like what I've heard described as a "drunken governor". I'm not saying that this is necessarily what you have here, but it sounds very similar to what I had on a machine. In my case the fix was to SLIGHTLY loosen the governor weight screws, let the governor spin the weights into balance, and very carefully re-tighten the screws. I'm sure you know not to loosen the set screw that holds the assembly to the shaft, otherwise you'll have a runaway motor.

Every time I fudge on cleaning the governor (ie: not completely disassemble), I always end up having to do it a second time. It is a picky little assembly. However, it is worth the fussing, as they can really smooth out with some careful attention. Just take some time watching it work, you'll tame your little lion - you're most of the way there now.
