My rarest phonograph is probably this Columbia electric coin-op model N in the large floor cabinet.

Never seen one of these before. What is the maker's name inside the lid and the (presumably) supplying dealer's name and address on the outside?Gramtastic wrote:How about a portable where the horn extends up through the lid ?

Hi, it is an "Ambassador" and the supplier is "S Ambler, 31 Queen Victoria street, Leeds".
I seem to recall that I read somewhere that Ambler was a band leader in Leeds and then opened a music shop.

We are enjoying the unusual machines that are being shared here on the Forum.
Here is our 'rare', 'most peculiar' machine. We don't know the maker, model, or year of manufacture. The only thing we know about is the English Garrard 11a motor. Has anyone seen anything similar?

I really enjoy this thread. There are some really neat phonographs out there. This makes us all dig even harder. Probably my rarest is the late model E Edison Idelia. I have been told that this is probably the only known example. I would love to hear of another to compare it with. Since getting it, I have found the correct horn and elbow. Greg Cline is refinishing the horn, elbow, case, and cover. They were done poorly before and the colors didn't match. I am anxious to pick them all up at Union.

It would be interesting to hear from any other collector who might have another untouched Model-E Idelia. But more than likely this is the only extant example. The few Mode-E's that exist have been stripped and an oxidized finish applied. This was a popular thing to do with these machines in the 70's and 80's to increase their value.

Well, this phonograph has already been posted and has a Featured Phonograph entry http://forum.talkingmachine.info/viewto ... =2&t=29056. But, it definitely qualifies as my most peculiar.

I've always preferred the "odd-ball" machines. Here's a few from my collection.

I just noticed this comment of yours.
Unfortunately the pictures you up-loaded have disappeared. Would it be possible please to up-load them again so I can see the gramophone ?
Thank you very much for any help you can give.
