The my ears, the Melophonic sounds more .... mellow ...
I thought I'd add to this... The Credenza's sound quality, when I initially listened to it, came across as brighter, with more upper range pumped out, at the expense of bass. But on second and third listening, I think what I'm hearing is a more even balance of sound. The saxophones, for instance, sound every bit as deep, but the treble is more crisp. In addition, I hear more of the "recording room ambiance" picked up by the microphone.
While the Melophonic model seems to have a deeper, more mellow tone, I think it's because the overall range -- treble, mid-range and bass -- is less evenly distributed, and shifted downward in favor of the bass and lower mid-range.
It would be fun to experiment with the Melophonic, swapping sound boxes, etc.
