First of all;

Could one of you guys tell me if this will work with my model B lamp? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... K:MEWAX:IT

Tinfoil, to your comments; these mantles are very difficult to get right now and I don't like buying them on eBAY but there's little other choice. I can't believe Aladdin let this happen. Lack of mantles certainly will damage their ability to sell new lamps too.

Now back on topic; I would really like to see pictures of your A290 and hear some history around it. What's the serial number. The A290 is on my "really wanna have" list. Please post a few pics if that's possible.

Bruce,to answer your question on the wick cleaner......Yes,that will work.Even though it is for a #12 model.The wicks that were used are all the same diameter for all models.Just the raiser design changed.I would wait until a generic one comes up.I think you will get it cheaper.Do not buy the plastic type.I should have told you to make sure your generator is crack free and clean with no dents.The Nu-Type "B" is a great burner.They were sold from the 30's right into the late 50's.Your lamp (as decribed)sounds like a "Lincoln drape" pattern font.Aladdin stuff was made in Brasil for many years.It has not been made in the US for a long time.There is NOT a lot of call or demand for these lamps anymore.In fact the value of even the few rare models has come way down.Being in Europe will have it's disadvantage but,there are still a ton of NOS parts in the US and in Canada.If your lucky,you can still find NOS in the basement of old hardware stores.As for showing you a Edison machine........I can't help you there :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:.OK Steve,you can say it :roll: .............. :lol:

Absolutely correct. Dealers are very upset because they are constantly fielding calls and messages from unhappy customers. Aladdin could not sell new lamps without mantles so it killed their sales for a while. They obviously put that as their priority which is why the new production is still not yet available to the public, and as previously noted they are devoting all their energy right now to the modern Lox-on style. For Kone-Caps the only option left is eBay. Not ideal, but that's the way it goes....

Schweg beat me to the punch by posting a link to my A-290. ;) It came from the Dave Heitz collection, I don't know where he got it. I've only ever seen one other, at Union last year. There can't be many of them left, considering how few were produced.

Gram78,

Thanks for the advice on the wick cleaner!

Tinfoil, Schweg,

Thanks for pointing me to Tinfoil's A290. I've only seen the one at Union last year and one other in rough shape several years back. There cannot be many that survived. You may know I have an A300. Wouldn't it be cool to line up your A290, my A300 and Schweg's 375 all in one place, preferrably my place, and take a few pictures for one of George's books! :D

Off topic again, back to Aladdin, I really hope they get thier act together. Buying these mantles in ones and twos off eBAY and then getting them to Europe only to have them fall apart after a few days is really getting to be a pain.

Gram78. Thank you very much for the offer to send me a manual by PM. I knew that you must never touch them with your hand and am very careful about that but I may not be letting it warm up properly before turning it up. Of course on this last on this last trip it was not helpful that homeland security had to open the boxes and inspect them, then again in Amsterdam too. I do not think they touched them but they get jostled around quite a bit...
Sorry to drift back to the O/T discussion about Aladdin mantles once again... but my hopes were dashed today when my two new mantles purchased at great expense on eBAY and shipped at even greater expense arrived broken. :o One is totally useless and the second, I'm using now even though that wire which suspends the mantle was dislodged and the whole thing had fallen down, breaking it a bit in a few places on the bottom.... For now it works. We'll see though :monkey:

Sorry to hear your misfortune.I take it you are not able to reattach the wire back. If you don't have the cone supported as it gets used it will sag down to nothing.I always use my old frames and with a small needle nose remove the wire and cone and place it on the old one.
