As I said considering all the aspects one has to address to properly restore it and the 30% buyer premium I did not expected the machine to be sold at that price unless it is consistent with the today's value of such gramophones (this is what I'd like to know) - the comments of the auctioneer were quite curious too.

What did the auctioneer say please, I wonder ?

Since discussions earlier in this thread I noticed that the auctioneers had added more photos of the Expert Junior and EMG Mk IV, revealing that both were in worse condition than first appeared. It seems the Junior has suffered damage since the base and horn were first sold to the previous owner. I hope the buyer is happy enough...

The EMG Mk IV was possibly 'about right' or a mild bargain at £650 + commission & tax, lacking an EMG soundbox and missing its feet.

I wonder who ended up with the extraordinary Chinoiserie Aeolian and unusual Vox gramophone?

I was really tempted to bid on the Mark IV at first, but as soon as I saw the missing feet, I decided to give it a pass.

A good Expert Junior - in my opinion (and having discussed this with knowledgeable friends recently) around £3500. An excellent Junior, especially if it has a 4-spring rather than 2-spring Expert soundbox, more.

It will be interesting to see the prices asked for some of these lots when they re-appear on eBay and on Dealer's websites.

I can't speak to the other machines, but the 113a didn't go to a dealer, but rather to a collector who probably paid too much.

Thank you very much your reply (unfortunately I managed to read it only today - I have been very busy since the auction). I placed some bids on the Junior but considering its overall condition and the price that kept going up I stopped.

If I recall correctly I heard the auctioneer stating just before proceeding with the next lot that the black lacquered Aeolian would have been sent to Holland.
