Yes, that would normally be the thing to do, but this governor is a bit different. If you had loosened the middle collar, (metal ring), and moved it as needed, versus bending the spring, it would have done the some thing. As it is, if it works for you the way the way it is now, then all's well that ends well. The bent spring is not ideal, but probably still okay.

Well, I talked to a fireside owner on Instagram, and it turns out need a second screw for the brass collar on the end of the governor.

Well, okay... You also "talked" to a Fireside owner on TMF that says you don't. Do what you like, it won't hurt anything either way.

Okay I apologize! All I wanted to know is what is that hole on the far collar of the governor for? I mean, there has to be a reason for it?

I gave you a reason. It's most likely left over from earlier versions of the governor. My Fireside has the same empty hole. Edison must have made these by the thousands. When this new style Fireside governor began they didn't just throw them away and start over. Besides, they still had to sell spare parts and would have still needed the set screw style collars for those. (This is speculatuon on my part and not documented in anything that I've read.)

So, then about that center collar? I was trying to adjust the governor so the brass disc would contact the two felts on the brass holder? Dyslexic Genius Hurt said moving the center screw to help with adjusting it? That’s why when I posted the picture on here you said it looks bent, which it is? Apparently that’s a spring?

Long story short! I just want to get my fireside to play a cylinder record at the correct speed?

Is my governor from a latter model? As I have a Model A

Your governor was perfectly fine and correct for your Fireside, (until the spring got bent). And yes, Hurt is correct that loosening the screw in the center collar will allow you to make adjustments.

It’s not supposed to be bent? I thought it bent, when I moved the brass ring to the right? Because I was trying to get the brass disc on the left to move closer to the felts, that hang down. I was doing this, because the governor was moving way too fast and caused everything to speed up! I thought the bent spring was supposed to bent, when the collar was moved to the right? Mine came that way when I bought the governor.
