Like I said previously, I padded the inside of the Col AH case with motor and it did not good. Those motors are very light compared to something like and Edison Cylinder Machine. I would never ship a Edison Cylinder Machine with the motor still in tack. Heard too many horror stories.

If the buyer or receiver is knowledgeable about phonographs, they would understand the reasoning behind droping the motor from the motor board.

I am the buyer of the phonograph. I recently bought a Columbia AH that was complete ,but with a crappy case. I saw blizz's case for sale and I bought it. It is a really nice case. What I was going to do was to exchange cases, and have a nice machine. The motor board came damaged as we all know from this thread. I had all kinds of problems with the post office that was discussed earlier. Bottom line is that blizz and I worked it out. The motor board is with a woodworker who will do the repair. Blizz allowed me to take a portion of the cost from what I owe him. That was very decent of him. Once I get the motor board back, I will have a really nice machine. It's great to be a member of this forum and buy and sell with others. All the experiences I have had have been great on this forum. Who knows, this might be the next ebay.

The Columbia A H is notorious for having a thin motorboard which is easily damaged in shipping.

A wood block placed to support the motor under the turntable spindle would save a great deal of trouble. Padding in this position still allows the motor board to flex, at least loosening the board joints.


One who plans to ship an item by common carrier (USPS, UPS, FEDX. DHL) should pack so that the the parcel can survive a fall of 66 inches onto a concrete floor on any side or on a y corner, and can survive at the bottom of a stack weighing 300 pounds per square foot of your package's surface. These are the specifications used by the adjusters who work for the shipping companies. A parcel which cannot arguably meet these rather stringent requirements will usually be judged as inadequate by the insurer.

I remember a cartoon I saw many years ago, titled "Suspicions Confirmed" showing PO employees in the back room rubber-stamping packages "Fragile". The stamps were on the ends of pogo sticks.

That was great. I was busting out laughing when I heard that one. The first time I heard that was when I was aboard ship in the Navy. Our group busted out laughing them. I hope the moderators leave this one alone.

I was puzzled by the final image in the video. (Yes, it turns out that's really Screamin' Jay Hawkins in repose!)

According to the Wikipedia page, "Hawkins died on February 12, 2000 after surgery to treat an aneurysm.... He left behind many children by many women; an estimated 55 at the time of his death, and upon investigation, that number "soon became perhaps 75 offspring"."

Apparently, he was adept at more than just musical "performances."
