It could detract from it if we started to worry too much about the destination
Too right! I see (looks deep into crystal ball) a future where house clearance people are throwing all these machines into a skip in order to get to and sort out a few items of furniture for their next auction.

"Are you sure there's no money in any of this old junk?" one man asks another. "Nah. I remember back in the 2020's there was an internet site called Ebay where you might have got a couple of quid for it if you were lucky. Not anymore, mate. Those days are long gone" comes a reply (followed closely by the sounds of a saw ripping through an Expert horn in order to save valuable skip space)

It's interesting to imagine that some of my machines could be nearly 200 years old when I finally kick the bucket.

And let's hope for posterity's sake they all still have their "original needles" with them!

HMV Model 32 (one of the last horn model with HMV 5A Soundbox on it!) or an EMG machine - but I wonder if I can manage to get any of these during my lifetime.....:-(

These are really quite beautiful in real life, as well as having the great sound of a common black 101.

Most that turn up are amazingly tatty. These have a kind of faded glory, which still appeals to many people. The best examples are another thing entirely: luxury, quality, beauty. They shine like a jewel.
THIS would be one of the top-3 items on my wish-list. What stunning craftsmanship and beautiful combination of colour and class...the similarly designed HMV 102 would also be on the list.

I'm mainly interested and fascinated by portable machines, yet although my knowledge of outside-horn machines is very limited, I wouldn't mind having one in my collection.

Beyond that, my wish-list is quite bland compared to the others:

- Victor portable VV-35/55/65
- Columbia Viva-Tonal Grafonola models 160-163
- Decca trench model
- Edison cylinder player (a 2 & 4 minute model...nothing too fancy)

I already have a Credenza, VV-IX table-top, black HMV 101 and Red, Green HMV 102. Ideally I'd get my paws on a Blue 102 as well.

I've yet to join the Toronto CAPS but once I do - and once they start their meetings again - hopefully some leads will complete my collection.

At the end of the day though, it's music that's my ultimate passion and I would hope to increase my jazz & blues collection beyond the mostly throw-away records I currently have.

Amberola 1A, HMV 202 or 203, E. M. G. Xb Oversize, RCA Victor R-99. That would a out complete my want list, which si small, but unfortunately expensive.
