Nick, you are a very lucky young man to have started a victrola
collection at such a young age, I envy you as I wasnt able to start mine
till I was 64yrs old. Keep up the good work and try and get your
friends involved in our hobby. Thanks for the pics also

Re: Edison Triumph at the flea market
Very nice, Nick, you're off to a great start. I started very late, at the age of double nickels.
Having a Triumph puts you many years ahead of your age, I think!
Best,

I got my first phonograph at age 8. It was an H-19 Edison diamond disc phonograph and I still have it.fran604g wrote:Very nice, Nick, you're off to a great start. I started very late, at the age of double nickels.![]()

Re: Edison Triumph at the flea market
I've been interested in talking machines since I was about 5 years old, "collecting" since I was about 13.
I'll be 50 in a couple years, and still don't have a "Triumph"...
Looks like you're off to a good start... and if you can bring yourself to actually sell some machines, even better !
( Still trying to get over that hump myself !
)

The only machines I sell are internal horn. For example, if I get a diamond disc machine that is not an A-250, B-250, or C-250 then I will sell it because I have a C-250 in my collection and I'm happy. I don't want any more diamond disc machines (except for an A-250 or an art console). And with victrolas, I would keep something like a VTLA or any of the more high end models. Anyway you get the point I like big fancy upright machines.De Soto Frank wrote:I've been interested in talking machines since I was about 5 years old, "collecting" since I was about 13.

Well, I LIKE smaller, (expensive) external horn machines... but I seem to HAVE big fancy (and not so fancy) upright machines...
You are probably wise to be selective in which machines you keep... some of us ( many of us? ) would get machines "just because they were there", or cheap, or on their way to the dump, etc.
It's tough for me to part with stuff, even dogs like my Pathéphone VII...

Thanks for posting photos of your conquest. It sure is great that you have partnered to sell phonographs too. Much success in this venture! I'm sure that in years to come, future forum members will be asking you for advice.

Re: Edison Triumph at the flea market
Asking questions and playing The Devil's Advocate is just my nature... so,
What's up with the screws in the top works and the latch plates? Just curious, is that an original decal? Is the finish original? Reproducer plays well? Springs good and strong? One thing I've learned over the past 20+ years is that sometimes a machine is a bargain for a reason. Two min only machines are sometimes a hard sell since the cylinders are more expensive and the tunes are not as toe-tapping as the 4 min ones.
You mentioned it came with cylinders, are they 2 or 4 min? Any tunes of note other than Old Oaken Bucket or Silver Threads Among the Gold?

Re: Edison Triumph at the flea market
The screws are not original, someone has switched them out at some point. The motor seems to run fine but I will rebuild it because the grease has dried out in the barrels causing the springs to thump. But other than that, everything is the way it should be. The cylinders that came with it are all blue Amberols.
