Why does an auction house do that?
£8000 plus comms.

And to answer your question, it's so companies like Invaluable and Worthpoint can charge us heaps of money via online subscriptions so we can simply look this stuff up for reference in the future.

There was a Berliner? I missed that! What was its lot number?

Do you also know for how much the Berliner gramophone was sold ?

Thanks, Andy. Now, all I've got to do is figure out how to bring it home from North Yorks!

Thank you, Graham. Yes, I'm looking forward to bringing it home soon. Regarding that motor, it obviously isn't included with the gramophone so would you know if Ian happened to store it with other spares he owned?

Lot. 602 - It is a very rare mahogany cased No. 5 (one mod away from being the "original" Trademark gramophone by virtue of the factory change to the cam brake / replacement bolt brake type). I was the underbidder on this but after the EMG win I dropped out at £5000. It needs a gentle clean and some polishing work but someone has a fabulous machine there and will be thrilled with it. My only reservation with "Berliners" is that for someone like me they end up becoming very expensive door stops or display case items. Unlike the EMG it wouldn't get much use!
