I find that the following works extremely well with worn / dry / problematic records:

1. Play once with a bamboo needle.

2. 'Zig Zag' the record with bees wax.

3. Play again with a bamboo needle.

4. Blow excess wax off record.

5. Wipe it with a standard record cleaning cloth / velvety thingy block - what-ever they are called

6. Play again using a bamboo needle.

7. Blow off excess wax from record.

8. Wipe it with a standard record cleaning cloth / velvety thingy block - what-ever they are called

9. When next played the record sounds like new. Really.

Record duster???

I'm going to try spray margarine, buffed with sack cloth and wiped off with Gewürztraminer Wine...

For what it’s worth, and I know this is an old thread, beeswax spray polish works well for me.

Has to be the pure stuff in liquid form and a tiny amount does the trick to lubricate. The records looks better than it sounds but there is a noticeable
improvement in sound quality albeit small.

The WD40 method works well too but I always seem to use too much!

I used some Scott's Liquid Gold on some worn discs that the weak motor in my Electrola portable wouldn't play all the way through and it had good results. I figure if it's safe to use on shellac finished furniture, it won't hurt a shellac record. Spray on a rag, give a quick light wipe over the disc, and play it.
