We had a local phonograph chapter where we lived and it was my turn to do a presentation on a topic of interest. It dawned on me to build a tinfoil machine from scratch. I had a lathe and milling machine, etc. So from raw materials I ended up with this. Rene was very gracious to give me tips on adjustment details and proper threads for the feedscrew.
Actually, that reminds me. I made a scratch built cylinder phonograph last year. I did a video on it here:

I've made a few improvements to it since then also.
Thanks

Although it has a long and detailed thread of it's own, this amazing project also deserves a mention here.

Back in the 1990’s, I built 3 complete, exact working replica Edison Class M’s, 17 complete functional replica Edison talking doll motors, 5 Edison H coin-ops, 4 complete coin-op kits for the Edison Excelsior, 8 Manhattan coin-ops, a whole whack of Columbia BS, and S coin-op kits, a couple of Edison Ajax’s, and some Multiphones.
Just to clarify, I’m not making any more complete machines, or coin-op kits, nor am I making any more Edison doll motors. It’s too cost prohibitive and too time consuming at this point. I’m old, fat, tired, and sometimes irritable. LOL!
I focus more of my time now, doing cylinder and disc musical box restorations now which is what I’m most passionate about. I still do common and rare phonographs too, but not production runs of kits or parts. Only one-off’s.
Finest in music box and phonograph restorations for over 40 years
