Maybe this photo should be added to this thread. The little boy is curious as to where the band is. As discussed on previous thread, this Victor 6 has a Lyons & Healy celluloid plate where the data plate should be.

This picture is said to show the Berliner Gramophone Company of Montreal in about 1910, where some quality control procedure appears to be taking place. Can any of our Canadian members confirm?

Yes, this well known photo is indeed showing Canadian Berliner Gramophones . The tell tale sign is, the way the Canadian horn elbows cause the horns to sit at a much higher angle compared their US counter parts. This photo is more than likely an interior shot within the Montreal factory.

This image and others of the Berliner factory (Montreal) are from the McCord Museum archives.

Another one of my favorites in the McCord holdings is, the QC ladies testing records. At least that's what it appears to be. Although. these are not private period images like others posted on this thread.

I believe most of these images were first published in period Berliner catalogs and or publications for promotional purposes.
Much like Victor did.

This picture is rather sad, as both the gramophone and the owner have fallen on hard times. I am old enough to remember seeing a similar scene as a small child in the early 1950's, and even then the sight and sound of an old gramophone fascinated me.

This is taken from the 1943 yearbook of the Illinois Institute of Technology, where I am the University Archivist. These are the members of the Phi Beta Pi sorority. Wow, I love it: a hand-crank phonograph being used; they seem so good-natured about posing with it.

Anyone know the model/make?

In reference to the first photo of the little boy on the chair: This is a cute photo, but to me there are a few details in it that seem unrealistic. Take that pyramid of cylinder boxes. It looks out of place. An abnormal stack of sleeves placed on a box(?) in front of the dresser. Not only is the placement of that box unnatural, but I tried to stack some sleeves like that and couldn't get them to stay in place without tape or some other way of keeping them from rolling. The other stack of wax cylinders in front of the machine made me squirm a bit in my chair. Young children and fragile items don't mix well, but even if it were an adult in the photo, I still cringe at the thought of wax cylinders balanced delicately on top of the others. So, I wonder what the message was intended to be in this photo?

The Weser Brothers Piano Co. showrooms on W. 43rd St. in New York City in April 1921. Besides the Modernolas on the sales floor, there are other brand(s) of phonographs visible through the windows on the mezzanine.

While still busy organising commemorations of the WWI centenary, I came across this picture published by an Italian magazine. The caption said it's a WWI british army enlistment point which was placed in London, Trafalgar Square. The gramophone looks to be a Columbia, but as far as I can see there was no record on the turntable when the picture was taken.
