It seems a steel needle was used for this recording. The real good machine can reproduce good sound using a bamboo needle. I hope you can demonstrate reproducing good sound with a bamboo needle.

Look for any collector group there, or check in Facebook... Anyway, they can be bought elsewhere, and the cost of postage is cheap, an envelope of bamboo needles fits into a letter!

I'd like to revive an old thread as I appear to have just bought a "30" from Alastair ("oldcountrychemist") off Ebay!
I've never seen one of these machines before so I'm really looking forward to picking this up, hopefully after Alastair is able to demonstrate it and share his extensive knowledge about this maker with me. I have an eclectic mix of rare and interesting cabinet machines in my collection so this should fit in very well. I'm particularly interested to compare it to the contemporary Decca Salon models and Apollos with the "Deep Tone Resonator".
Is it possible for members to re-load their photos, currently missing from this thread?

Congratulations on buying one of Alastair's Chromograms. He currently has three, soon to be two, and I have one. We both consider the Chromogram to be one of the best cabinet gramophones that most people have never heard of.
Alastair and I made a 400 mile round trip to collect the MP30 from St.Leonards-on-Sea in August 2012. An account of our adventures there, and the machine's subsequent restoration, appeared in the Spring 2013 CLPGS magazine.
I suggest trying a few soundboxes, as they significantly affect performance. My MP23 came with it's original soundbox, but switching to a Meltrope II transformed it, and it was my everyday player until the EMG/Expert bug bit.
I attach the 1930/31 catalogue image of the MP30. together with a line drawing of it's distinctive horn.

I found 2 Perophones on eBay but none sold by ’oldcountrychemist’. Is that the username they’re using? A very nice example was just sold by ’murrayalstone’. Looks great if that’s the example you’ve got.

That's the one; "murrayalstone" is Alastair Murray aka 'oldcountrychemist' on here.

I don't find this seller on ebay. But nice to hear about new owner of Perophone
