The Phonola was made in Kitchener, Ontario by the Pollock Manufacturing Company. They moved into radios in the 20's and eventually renamed themselves Electrohome in the late 30's. They manufactured radios and later televisions and stereos and appliances. They wound down operations in 2008 but the Electrohome trademark still exists. And I think the original company still owns CKCO: the Kitchener station. In the phonograph era they advertised extensively. They produced an internal horn machine early and thereby pushed the fact that they sold an internal horn machine cheaper than the Berliner Gram-0-Phone Co's Victrola. I don't know why Berliner didn't go after them but they seemed somehow to escape prosecution.

That McLagan was made in Stratford Ontario. The George McLagan Co. was a furniture manufacturer who got in to the phono bis in 1917 when the basic patents began to expire . This machine is a low end McLagan because as quality furniture manufacturers, cabinetry was the main selling point, and some of the machines really are spectacular. They used the Fletcher reproducer...you know, that six sided( hexangonal) shaped one with six small holes leading to the tone arm rather than one big one in the centre. ( They sound pretty good too. I have one: a reproducer not a McLagan machine...) McLagan as a phonograph manufacturer lasted into the late 20's: they produced a "phonic" type of machine but I've never seen one. They continued on as furniture makers until the 50's at least. They made radio cabinets for Canadian Westinghouse...

That Polk-Phone is a surprise to me- the only Polk machines I've ever seen have been suitcase portables.
