C250/C19 Database project

Hi Fran,

I'd just like to thank you for setting up this data base project. I'm sure it will prove to be an extremely valuable resource for present & future collectors.

Another variation you may find on late C-19's is the governor was changed from having 2 weights to having 3 weights. From my personal (but limited) observations, those with 3 weights will also have mustard turntable felt instead of green.
It's also my belief that C-19's which have no speed control on the top side of the bedplate will begin to appear around the same time as the Edisonic models were introduced. These C-19's should also have a patterned grille cloth (as used on Edisonics) instead of a plain cloth.

I will be sharing the results of my study at some point in the future, for sure. I hope to gather enough information to be able to write an article or series of articles. When I do that, I will make the spreadsheet available to everyone, as Martin Kauper did with his vast work on the Edison Standards. Also, as others have done with their work, I will continue to gather data for as long as I can, to make this work the reference for Chippendales.

As for the medallions; Yes, you have it right. The $250 Diamond Disc is the Official Laboratory Model Thos A. Edison may have been a carry-over from the Model B "Modern Renaissance" as that was the price that both the Model A and B were to be sold at and I have observed model B's with this medallion. The B was a fairly successful seller, with sales from June through December 1915 exceeding 2,650 and an additional 12,549 had been sold before March 1, 1915 (Frow), so it wouldn't be unreasonable to speculate that a great many "extra" parts were inventoried and needed to be used up. Frow states that there was an "advance" of C-250's in November 1915, and that the C-250 and the model B where being sold simultaneously after December 1, 1915. He also states that the model B's, "...seem to have been cleared away in 1916". This overlap supports my assumption.

The C250 Diamond Disc Phonograph is the Official Laboratory Model Thos A Edison medallion appears at some point after #12011, perhaps this suggests that a future price increase for the C-250 over the model B wouldn't have been reflected in the "badge". The Model 250 Diamond Disc Phonograph is the Official Laboratory Model Thos A Edison was next, followed by Diamond Disc Official Laboratory Model Thos A Edison which appears to have been used only on C-19's.
