As I said, I know that Don and Norman can't copy every favorite record for everybody. The list I put up was just for the benefit of making some good titles available if wanted or needed. In fact, I think it would be good for more, not less, people to weigh in with their needs to give some idea of what people want and how big a market there is for this enterprise. Just because someone puts up a want list doesn't mean Don or Norman have to produce it. And also if you have a good DD library that you would be willing to loan if the producers see something they want to produce, it would be good to list it.
Don is already well aware of what I have, so I don't feel the need to post it here. All I was saying is, things get very overwhelming when these kind of things get out of control. Sure, we all have things that are GREAT. I have lots of records that are the only extant known copies, but I don't need to publish them here, I've kept my conversations about this private with the exception of when one member repeatedly asked about the 1924 Blues DDs yet refused to answer me when I asked him TWICE if he was asking for the Ellen Coleman issues, of which I already offered both for copying.

Please don't misunderstand me, but look at the perspective here...

I don't see anything getting out of control here. I think it's good to see people's want lists. Even if they don't get produced, it's interesting to see what other collector's favorite titles are.

I love Norman's list and the fact that he is in control of what is coming.
Most of them are hard to find and very desirable.
I'm going on record to say that I will buy all of those on that list that he is offering. :D

Sean, Marc;
Both of you have been incredibly generous in loaning of discs, (much needed) advice and kind words. I sincerely appreciate your offers of discs and after I've "perfected" the process on my own discs, I'll gladly start molding yours. Unless you happen to have others with missing labels, in which case I'd be happy to mold them now! 8-)

Ps. I think I have the label and spindle hole issues solved, and will be testing some new techniques (hopefully) this weekend. You guys are great and I can't wait to show you what's next!!!

thanks Don and thanks to Sean for loaning some rare records to be duplicated! I have been experimenting with clear shellac and clear matte finish acrylic to stabilize the Edison labels so Don can make a mold without worrying about label damage. I'm willing to do that with any DD that Don or someone would want to duplicate. I understand others may not want to change their DDs in any way also. And also thanks to the list posted by Norman. I think I would also buy all of those duplicates, even though I own the Black Bottom Stomp DD already, it would be nice to have a duplicate to play instead of my E++ original. Good work guys!

The really nice thing about DD copies is that there is no needle changing.
Edison released a lot of good titles and most of us haven't even heard them.
Maybe this will bring them out of hiding.

Another idea which I hope someone will solve is how to make a copied standard 78 that can be played without changing needles! :o :D

You said it right there! People who say that Edison DDs are boring have been listening to the pre-1925 records. The variety, the quality, and bands improved so much from 1926 to 1929, that it's mind boggling! It's just that the best records are very hard to find and expensive when you do find them! Thus, the importance of Don and Norman's work! Marc.

Marc et al.,

I do think people would be willing to lend their rare discs if they were sure of getting them back undamaged.

Perhaps some of us here could give some advice on sure ways to get a record to/and back from Norman or Don safely.

FedEx or UPS would probably work better than the USPS, through which so many of us have had problems, with totally fool-proof types of packaging and insurance that would really, truly pay if a fully insured package would become damaged or lost by them.

I know UPS offers to pack things and that should ensure that an insurance claim would be paid.

The cost would be small if enough people buy the copies.

Good points John! Yes, it is a risk when you send rare records in the mail. I have sent a couple of records to Don and he took very good care of them and sent them back via FEDEX quickly. There are some who will not send their records due to these fears, of course. But I love the project they are doing so much, I am willing to take that risk. I just avoid Media Mail for this purpose.

This has been a major issue in getting more people to loan me Berliners. Even though I only use Fedex, many collectors have had the post office damage enough records that they're unwilling to ship. I'm getting to the point that if I found someone with a decent collection within 1,000 miles of Philly, I'd probably drive out in my tiny car with all my equipment to mold them onsite!!
