Being a Brooklynite originally... I can tell you that the health risk of this is FAR from "minimal". I find it amazing that anyone thinks that way, yet we see it every day.
Indeed. Until we can get widespread testing, and a reliable vaccine, it's best to be as cautious as possible.

Yes I agree it is unfortunate, but with the way the world is today I think it's the best decision that could be made.

There were a lot of us forum members (and others) that wanted to go to this Union show. The final Union show. Even some that said they had never been wanted to go to a show and this would be their last and only opportunity. And most were bowing out. Everyone now has a second chance to take in Union's final party.

Some people don't know but Union isn't just a music show. It's not a place to just buy and sell phonograph and related items. It is that but this show is also where friends got together. Some friends you only see once a year (because of distance or other reasons) and it was here. New friends were made at this show. New contacts are made for whatever your needs. You could pick the brains of the experienced people for info and their knowledge. You had a beer with old and new friends and just shoot the s**t. And then there was Jaspers. That's a whole other outing that every music interested person needs to experience at least once in their lifetime.

So yes it's not ideal, but it will give us all one final chance to take in all that Union has to offer.

See you all next year (Hopefully).

Mike

I have no desire as of now to go to union in 2021 it just will not be the same. I have always enjoyed spending time in the museum but it looks like the rest will probably all be sold off before long. I hope they will do the honorable thing and refund everybody's money since the 2020 show is not going to be held and they want to rollover the payments for next year.

Everybody hang in there looking for better days ahead.......Steve

It would be nice to have a rural, yet accommodating venue. Where once again, as in the glory days, parking lot business and collaboration was invited, you didn’t have to fight traffic and crime, local motels were a mere 15 minutes away, camper hookups and shower facilities were on site, and the entire atmosphere to be absent of politics and restraint.
That is what we need to return to.

Life is too short to harbor ill feelings, place blame, second guess reasoning for decisions that have been made, etc. If there is a 2021 Union, and it's safe to attend, I'll be there. If APS also has a 2021 show, and if it's a reasonable distance, and again safe to attend, I'll be there too. Let's enjoy the hobby, enjoy the people, enjoy the trip, and leave all the other "stuff" behind. Divisiveness destroys hobbies.

My regrets if this is directed towards my comment. Believe me, none of the emotions mentioned find harbor inside of me! I simply long for a time... simpler in nature and effect where old friends may congregate.

No, not directed at you, or anyone in particular. Just addressing a general sense of frustration maybe, which given everything that's going on, is probably hard to avoid.

Edisonphonoworks presented an interesting possibility

"We have similar size buildings at the Bureau County Fair Grounds. Princeton is right of I-80 exit 56, the sad part it is 100 miles west of Chicago, so it is not near the city. I could also talk to the Mendota Fair board about having an event in Mendota, it is off of I 39, 50 miles south of Rockford. Contact me off list if we want to work on this."

Maybe starting a new venue in Illinois would be a possibility.

Having never been to a show before, I have a question (and this may be a stupid one :? )

I assume everyone gets a hotel room or something of the sort when going to a show? Is the show a one day thing or is it more than one?

When 2021 rolls around, I plan to come to some show cause I would really love to meet you guys in person.
