Hi, I am newbie on this site, and looking to purchase a motor and base plate for a Victrola XVI. My Son and I have started fixing up old phonographs as Father / Son projects, and we came across a XVI L Door, but it's missing the motor. If anyone out there has parts, please let us know. Thanks !

I may have a motor board, but not a motor. Depending on how much you're willing to spend, you may be hunting for a while for a motor. The motor for the L-door XVI can run you up to $400.00. Also, it might be helpful if you posted the serial number for your machine. The motor for all L-doors is prety much the same, but here are a few variations in the motor board (and they change brake styles as well later in the run).

Good luck.

bidnadir,

Downsouth is picking up the oak l-door listed on recently on the yankee trader board, and from the looks of it, it will be parted out. He also had a mahogany motor board for sale a couple months ago. Good Luck.

bidnadir, What is the serial number on your "L" Door XVI? The oak one I picked up is a transitional model between the VTLA and the rest of the "L" Door line until the standard type XVI of 1913. There are features on this machine that are shared with the VTLA and not the others, such as a raised motorboard, round crank escutcheon and a lock that used the rarer wreath key. Does your machine say Victor Victrola in the lid or just Victrola? Let me know and I will see if these parts might work with your machine.

Regards, Wes

Hi Everyone, sorry for the delayed response. I am a forum newbie :)

The machine we have is a VV-XVI with serial number 22319C. On the metal tag it reads "Victor Talking Machine Company". We are looking for the motor board, motor, brake and crank. I have posted some pictures so you can see what the unit looks like. We have the shelf and drawer too, but had them removed from the machine when we took these pictures. My Son (Brad) and I have have been restoring some of these old machines as Father Son projects and have been really enjoying it.

If you have parts available for this one, please let us know. Thanks,

Charles & Brad

It looks like the transition from my VTLA to the XVI. If it used the raised motor board, as the VTLA does, then I am pretty sure downsouth had one for sale in June when I visited. You might talk to him about the motor and break. Just don't buy the break I have asked him about!

I have a type C XVI. Here's a picture of the motor board/turntable area. Please note that this style has the yielding turntable with removable spindle, and there are rubber bumpers on top of the motor board (i.e., under the turntable).

Now that you have located a motorboard from Jerry, did you find the correct motor, turntable and crank?
