Ryan Barna's Billy Murray site contains a Murray filmography that lists Max Fleischer cartoons from 1929 and 1930 which contain the voice of Billy Murray, either singing or narrating.

One of the cartoons is I'm afraid to come home in the dark.

If you're not familiar with the record, first listen to Murray's Edison 2-minute cylinder rendition (released in March 1908) at http://cylinders.library.ucsb.edu/

Then watch the 1929 cartoon on Youtube:

It was interesting to see what they did with the second verse in the Fleischer cartoon. I always liked the wife sitting in the "C-A-F-E" as opposed to the Y.M.C.A.

The cartoon uses the first & second verse, and Billy Murrays uses the first & third.
This is all three verses together.

Thanks! I was completely unaware of the second verse.

"I'm Afraid to Go Home in the Dark" was one of 1907's great hits.

In 1908, Billy Murray recorded a sequel, "I Used to Be Afraid to Go Home in the Dark (Now I'm Afraid to Go at All!)
