Picked this up wed at an auction, was used as a dowery box and I believe it is an unused/undrilled phonograph case. Lid is 12x12 inches. Anyone here have any ideas? I was thinking maybe a columbia. I am hoping to trade it to a friend and fellow collector for some other machine or parts or ebay it if that fails and wanted to be accurate with my description.
Thanx in advance

Wow,thanx for the info. I could have looked forever till I found out what it really was. Wonder how it made it to the outskirts of amish country . It was made into the dowery box 20 years after being partially made, way after its original life would have been.

Clearly you can see the columns are now upside down. I would say that this case has been heavily re-worked into something else and not an unfinished machine.IMO

Yeah i saw that and the other two are missing.Other than those two things and the addition of home style guilding there is no evidence of the case being modified, not one hole in it,all panels match. With a little unfortunately needed refinishing and couple columns it will either make a nice machine or curiosity display piece.

I suspect that its value on the antiques market would be greater leaving it just as it is. It has some charm as a folk art dowery box.
