HMV label assistance...

I was lucky to find this great assortment of Swiss and German music here in the desert southwest. The came in the binder I noted in the following thread...
http://forum.talkingmachine.info/viewto ... =2&t=11055

I googled the titles and artists to get some information and the 14 records seem to be chiefly Swiss. Here are a sampling. Forgive the blur, I used the scanner and the do not lay flat on the glass. From the information I found, these all seem to be from the 1930s.

grammophon-platten.de was very helpful. They have date information on the Gloria label. The numbers of the records I have place them in 1936 and 1937.

tedstaunton.com too, the Kristal (1931)

HMV are a mystery to me. Anyone know where in time these belong?
Note that the two green HMV labels are different in style and both have the same error. The first quote mark in HMV" is missing.

Thanks,
James

Eddie Shaw's book "Date about all those English 78's" also includes some information on "Foreign" issues.

It appears that the Swiss made HMV HE label changed from magenta to green from about HE337. The series seems to have run until about 1955, but the majority of the output was pre-1948. The earliest serial number quoted is HE141 and the latest is HE3148.

Other Swiss HMV series included FKX, FN, FO, HEX and JK.

Thanks for posting this information.
"The majority of the output was pre-1948."
HMVs are still a mystery to me. :?

One thing that's no mystery, they contain good music!

I wish I could have been more specific than "Pre-1948" but that is all the book has to say about this label.

It was intended to be the first volume in a series which was never completed. Volume 2 was to cover "private" recordings, and Volume 3 was to cover "pressed abroad" records which were available in the UK.

Volume 1, ISBN 0 9524896 0 0, is unfortunately long out of print. My copy came from the CLPGS Bookshop several years ago, and it is just possible that they may still have others.

The last update Eddie Shaw produced added the following information to the HE series:
550 - 556 issued 1941
- 568 1942
- 671 1943
Parts 2 and 3 were issued, I have copies!

Thankyou Orchosol for pointing this out.

Although I have never seen Volumes 2 and 3, I am very pleased to learn that they were in fact issued. All I have to do now is start looking for them!
