Some of my off-brands - photos

A small Ecco, a Symphony, a Harmony, a Mag-Ni-Phone, and my new weird looking "no-name". The Mag-Ni-Tone is ½ metal and ½ wood as is the pillared "no-name" machine. The metal parts are painted to look just like wood, and it really does. The Mag-Ni-Tone is temp. borrowing a "Birch" portable tonearm until I find the correct one that was missing when I found the machine. I will post more of my off-brands when I get the time, and I hope others add to this photo list as a means of identification for new and seasoned collectors alike........

Yes, the wierd looking no name is pretty cool. I noticed it has a metal post above each pillar on the motor board. Any idea of their purpose?

I'll bet those are locating posts for a completely removable top cover.

The lids for these are wood-grained formed sheet metal, and simply rest on top. there is no hinge.

Very nice collection of off-brands indeed Brian. I've always found it far more interesting to view a collection like yours, rather than walking into a room full of boring Victor/HMVs and Edisons that 1000's of other collectors have & you've seen 100's of times before.

I agree with Shane. These off-brand machines are often never encountered (the Harmony and Symphony excepted), and present a collector with a wonderful novelty that takes you back to when you were starting out. When the usually very reasonable prices of these machines is considered, they're quite a bargain!

The four big nickel plated acorn nuts are slotted and screwed onto four very long studs which split the phonograph into four pieces - the top wood motor board, the large chambered woodgrain speaker drum, the heavy cast iron grille, and the wood baseboard. The cabinet is dark oak and very unusual as you can see, BUT the drawbacks are a very small 9" turntable, an undersized single spring motor, and a pot-metal tonearm which is in very good shape thankfully. The big woodgrain painted drum has one very large continuous chamber which actually creates alot of bass-tone but makes this table top very very heavy. Does anyone have a clue as to who manufactured this strange looking machine??? There are no markings what-so-ever so I am at a loss here.
