That green turntable felt has got to go. This is the first center start machine I've seen The owner sent photos to Christies Auction House who ventured a guess as to the year of production around 1912. Who knows. The plate under the Pathéphone tag on top of the lid covers a thicker piece of metal which supports the records inside the lid.

In your description above, you call this a "center-start" machine. I wouldn't call it that.
All machines that use the stylus to carry the sound box and tone arm across the record, are
by nature "universal" and can play center start and edge start records.

You just happen to have center-start reoords with your machine. Pathé made during the
vertical-cut era both center start and edge start records. Your machine was made possibly
during the era when Pathé just made center start records. But your Pathé will play other
brands of vertical-cut records, and they do not need to be center-start.

The stylus chuck looks like a typical Pathé stylus COVER with a hole in the end, no? Also, I can't see how the lid fastener works. Another cute and odd Pathé machine! A complete collection of Pathé models would be HUGE !

Anyone out there have one of these machines? I would like a photo of the inside of the lid and how the records and held in place. My machine has that large thumbscrew shown in one of my photos. In addition, how is the tone arm/reproducer secured when the machine is being transported? Probably be leaving the hobby soon and contemplating what to do with my 49 machines..

      Cheers
