my latest aquisition is a Pathéphone, it comes with lots of accessories, a tortoise shell record cleaner, 2 lateral adaptors, the vertical reproducer and a concert cylinder box containing the parts of the original motor. the motor has been replaced with a garrad motor, need a original one, does anyone have any photos of a original one?? or a original one that i can buy?, as you can see, someone calved out the motor board to put the motor in, i am yet to see the damage under the turntable because i cant get the turntable off yet!, but it looks bad underneath (you can see the outline of the original motor) (the motor sunk into the base) another piece of wood has been cleverly put over the old hole and a new one drilled, still ruining it! the 2 holes the stay for the motor board has been completely destroyed

this is the ridge where the tonearm attaches with 2 peices broken off, any idea how i can fix this? there is also a corner column missing

does anyone have any of the parts needed to fix this?, i only paid £30 for it but it needs alot of work!!


just also noticed the original speed control has been removed, i will need one of those :'(

That is quite a find, but it will also be quite a project. I hope you can get some help and parts for it.

i have just got the motor off and...ouch!!, its been butchered!, its had atleast 4 motors in the past with many plugged up holes!
can someone with a complete Pathéphone 12 send me some pictures of the motor, break, speed controll etc so i know what i need to find!

My recommendation is not to try to fix it, the replacement parts will cost you much more than getting another one in good condition. The tonearm adapter in particular cannot be fixed, it is broken pot metal. The case also is too damaged to be recovered.

Kirtley, unfortunately I'd have to agree with Carlos' assessment. Sad I know, as it was once a beautiful machine, but sometimes they are just too far gone to resurrect.

Although no-one likes to see a machine scrapped, I have to agree that this looks like a project too far.

Console yourself with the thought that the salvageable components are worth more than the amount you paid. They will be useful additions to your spares box, and will in due course help bring other machines back to life.

If you have the space to store it, even the battered case may supply veneer and mouldings for a future restoration.

I'd have to agree with the others Kirtley that you'd have your work cut out for you with this one, but the parts, mouldings, reproducer etcetera you could sell and make some money or, keep them in reserve in anticipation you might need them to complete a machine from a more complete starting point.

They are an impressive machine, I agree. I resurrected this old thread which includes some pics of a complete one in case you are interested.

i am going to take this on, i have already started with the tonearm support piece, the whole tonearm, reproducer and piece between the tonearm and horn are pot metal but in good condition, the fractures on there now have been broken off by a shock or pressure on the tonearm, considering there is a big dent on the tonearm!
the motor will probably be the only problem!
if it doesnt work out, i can always sell it for parts but im determined to get it working first!

Daunting, but I wish you best of luck with it. Keep us posted on progress.
