shining up old paint on Edison Standard machines

Does anyone know the best way to remove old grunge and then restore previous
shine to the bed-plate black paint finish?
I would guess the automotive paint restoration products might apply here?

Hi, I've tried a few different things but what works for me is WD40 to clean off the grease,and then a good car polish.Some use Meguiars scratch X2.0 car polish I haven't tried it myself yet. hope this helps Gordon.

I have had excellent results with Meguiar's Cleaner Wax, which is also easy to use. It cleans and waxes in one operation as the name implies. Has so far been safe even for the gold striping areas, but apply gently there until you get the feel of it. Should be available at your local auto parts store.

I have used GoJo and it works great for removing old grease. It will not damage decals.

WoW, thank you all for those suggestions I will try them.
It figures that the single type paint used in older cars would
be similar to phonograph paint.And the goal is the same "shine baby shine."
