Columbia BVT Cylinder Machine

I recently bought a Columbia BVT cylinder machine and I have some questions on it. Is the horn supposed to swivel on it, or is it supposed to be rigid? Mine is rigid and I don't want to force anything. I don't see any evidence of a weld or any type of glue, so it looks like it was pressed fitted at the factory. Like I said, I don't want to force anything. The other question is the horn. There are no gold stripes on it, just plain black. Did these horns have gold stripes on them? If so, can someone provide a picture of the horn with gold stripes?

Harvey,
The horn does swivel at the elbow and the horn is trimmed in gold

Chuck,
Thank you for the info and picture. Is the elbow held in by a pin or pins? I don't see ant so they could be hidden. Or, is the elbow press fitted? If the elbow is press fitted, what keeps it from falling out?

The elbow mounts like a late Victor with a slide in elbow. The elbow slides over an inch into the back bracket. Because of this, there is no fear of it coming out. Jerry

Hi Chuck
Interesting to see your photo of the BVT. I noticed in the background an AR Columbia. I recently bought a machine with 30" brass horn. Yours looks to have the aluminium horn. Any chance of posting some pictures.

Thanks for all the replies. Now I have to see how to get the elbow loose to come out.

I got the elbow to swivel. A little penetrating oil did the trick.

Sure, if I can far enough away from it. The horn is 36" long.
Couldn't get far enough away to get a full side shot. Didn't realize how dusty it was up there.
The bell is 20 ½" across

Hi Chuck
Thanks for posting pictures of your AR. Great horn. I am a collector in UK and managed to get a repro Columbia arm from JAS. My machine is now complete, but the horn needs some cosmetic work. Then it can take a place next to my other machines.
Regards

I've got the Columbia AH with that large aluminum horn. Honestly I think a brass one of the same size would tip over the machine.
