Just brought home a fairly nice Edison A-100 today from Craigslsit - $75. It's been in a attic for about 45 years, a bit dusty, and the main spring is broken, but all else seems to be in great shape. The cabinet is inherently weak, but still sturdy.

Awesome, actually! Just think - from West Orange, to L.A., to Portland - it's in great shape for so much travel and time. My first DD was an A-100 with no grille & the legs chopped off, making it into a REALLY hefty 'table model'.

Only thing missing is 1 of 3 of the bolts holding down the bedplate. Anyone got a spare?

The serial number is SM 18325. Any way to know the date of manufacture? I understand these were made 1915-1918, so it has to be in that period, at least.

According to Frow, a hand-stamped plate like yours would have been superseded sometime in March 1916....

Very nice. The oak case raises this up above the average.

Very nice machine, congratulations. I have an A-80, but it has all the inherent motor weakness that lead to the development of the DD type B motor. The A-100 motor should be a lot better, and I actually like the design.

Oooooak for me is always so much nicer than mahagony. That should look very nice after cleaning and polish. $75 is one of my favorite craigslist prices for a phonograph too.
