Most Edison sample records typically play a portion of the company's current releases.
Years ago I found the long-play sample record, having five full selections on each side.

I've transferred the tracks with a modern lightweight pickup.
Below is a link to the tracks:

You can play the entire disc without stopping if you click the "auto-play next file" box.

Enjoy, if you can!

40+ years in the hobby and I never knew that such existed, even though I have a long play and a dealer sample. Thanks for posting.

Glad to do it!
I found this in a wooden crate with other regular discs in a secondhand furniture/junk store in Great Falls, Montana. You never know when you'll get lucky!

I didn't believe it (sorry, nothing personal) until I saw the length of the tracks. Is this even in any of the books? I can't recall reading about LP Sample discs! Wow. And thank you for generously sharing with us !

Hey Bob, are the songs separated out into different tracks like with a "modern" LP or are they all one lot of unbroken grooves?

Very interesting! I note that it does not even say "long play" anywhere on the record. I assume it's a 12" record? I also did not know such a thing existed. I too have a 12" sample record. It looks just like yours except contains about 5 or 6 partial tracks on each side.

Thanks very much for posting.

Glad you liked it! The only reference to this disc that I've found is a picture of the label in my spiral-bound "Edison Diamond Disc Re-Creations Records and Artists 1910-1929 (no author attributed).

There is one long groove, with no separate bands. The silence between the selections varies, and I figure there must have been two playback machines used when making the dub. You can hear the difference in surface noise "whoosh" in a few of the changeovers. This is less apparent on computer playback.

There is a picture of one label in the Colector's Guide that was pubished last year. This is definitely a rare bird!

How did you figure out it was an LP? Many people would have tried to play it with a standard reproducer and mechanism and damaged it.
