How do you clean/slash polish a zinc record?

By sinc record to you mean a pressing master?
The only metal records I know of that were intended for use were made of aluminium

First - a zinc record? Explain - are you sure it isn't aluminum?

Problem with zinc is that it isn't a stable metal and it not only oxidizes but it decomposes over time. I suspect that if you've got a record cut or engraved in zinc any corrosion will have destroyed the grooves.

Zinc decomposition is why pot metal castings fall apart, and why old brass will develop cracks and become brittle.

How about a picture or two of the disc in question ?


If it is an early Berliner record, cleaning or polishing should probably be out of the question...
