I only know one collector friend of mine that actually owns one of these rare Edison Army / Navy models currently for sale on EBay. If I only had the money - big & ugly! You don't see these very often for sale in this condition? Ebay item number: 181115395481

Are they all Army green or was there another color for a Navy machine? All I've ever seen are green. Jerry

Looks like a pretty nice example. I don't know where the seller got the information about all of these having been painted Navy gray, then overcoated with green. Mine shows no signs of gray paint under the green, nor below the bedplate. Also, I believe the original price was $55.

My local antique phonographs guy (who's been at it for over 40 years) has owned (at least for awhile, before selling) pretty much all the models of the major antique phonograph companies over the years--except for the original upright Amberola (with the lyre grill) and the Army/Navy Edison DD machine. Will tell him about this, though I think he'll ultimately decline.

Makes you wonder how many times on the Western front in 1918 that units moved forward quickly and then opened this kind of box for vital supplies--only to find that they had brought Billy Murray along.

Pathé also made a rugged, outdoor model for the same purpose. It has attachments to secure the turntable and crank into the lid and a bracket to secure the reproducer. Simply grab the leather straps and throw it in the wagon for its next use. The internal horn is exceptionally loud. I believe this was called the Outfitter and I have never seen another example. This one has been repainted.

Very rare, and in very nice condition, but I think the seller wants too much.

I've never seen or heard of that Pathé model before. Is that one yours? If not, where did you see it?

YES - It is in my collection. I either have an original or a copy of an original Pathé catalog somewhere which documents this model as part of Pathé's product offerings. I will need to dig thru some paperwork to find it. It occurs to me however that they called it "The Outfitter". The green cord attached to the right handle / leather-strap is holding the key for the lock.

Another Army-Navy Diamond disc machine is on the market just now. It will be sold at the April 20th Estes radio auction.

The machine appears to be complete and in reasonably good condition at least in the published photographs.
