Just brought home a truck load of old spring motor phonos and found one that has me stumped. It is a very heavy gothic looking Silvertone console. Any info available for this machine? It has some issues but is still quite interesting.

Thanks! CDB

This machine plays very nicely in spite of it's shabby appearance. CDB

Strictly speaking, I wouldn't label the cabinet as 'Gothic': it looks more like the sort of 'Spanish Baroque' that became popular in the Orthophonic era…

That is all I could find, too. Probably worth millions of dollars...

Millions?

Considering most collectors have no interest in console machines because of the amount of space they take up and yours looks pretty grungy, I kind of doubt that!

Something tells me you're joking, but sometimes it's hard to tell.

I'd say the case is supposed to be Jacobean, or maybe Early English - furniture like this is usually oak so the mahogany is a bit jarring. Would have looked nice in a 20's period room. It could be nice again, but you'll easily put more money into this than it is worth.

Definitely not "Gothic." Pointed arches and design emphasis on vertical elements are Gothic traits; this example has neither. I'd call it "Sears Clunky."

I would describe this machine as shrouded by a shoddy magnificance
