Concert Promotional Poster

I bought this poster at an estate sale this week and after I removed the poster from it's ratty 1970's frame and mat I saw where the mat had covered up the "McKinley's Last Speech Given" addition. Anyone else have a poster with modifications added like this one? I also noticed from the 3 examples in my books by Fabrizio & Paul that although the art is very close to the ones pictured in their books, this one has the cased model graphophone and the gentleman behind the lady has a different head (Same body/suit though). This one must have been near the end of phonograph concert novelty. The print block was very worn and trash was in the spaces around the letters. The printer really didn't care if he was center of page either.

Nice find! There are a number of variations of this poster, it would be interesting if someone could research and illustrate all of them.
These were supplied in quantity by Sears to anyone who bought an exhibition outfit. A quantity of unused ones turned up years ago and most of the ones that I've seen in the past 50 years are such new-old-stock, unused examples. It's wonderful to see one that was actually used, no doubt marked with the same rubber-stamp kit that Sears supplied along with all the posters and tickets.
It's sort of like stock certificates -- collectors usually value issued ones much more than crisp, unused old-stock examples.
Congratulations on a fun discovery!

Moo, what a great find at an estate sale! Rene's right - finding one that saw actual service is a treat.
I shot a couple of Sears posters for articles on "Traces of Early Talking Machine Exhibitions" that appeared in the past two issues of
The Antique Phonograph. Unfortunately, our tyrannical Editor claimed there was no room for them!
Anyway, I'm glad to post them here...!

Good Morning To All. I do have a few of the new, old stock, never been used marquee posters remaining. The one that I have is the earliest one that is mentioned above in the posting by forum member phonogfp. You can look back in the Yankee Trader section to my original posting dated August 21, 2013 to see the exact ones that I have, and refer to the description. (I actually figured out how to "bump" the listing from previous in the trader section to current). OK...I'm challenged...that I will admit!
If anyone may be interested in these rare, original, mint condition pieces of phonograph history, please feel free to contact me.
I agree, finding this one shown here, as well as the opportunity to find an original one at all, is a great find!!
Thanks much!!
