Just recently came home with a batch of cylinders; appropriately, there were a bunch of French series Blue Amberols, just in time for Bastille Day…

As a bonus, there were some French cylinder boxes: one Edison and two Columbia: Bill

Incidentally, does anyone know of a comprehensive list of the Foreign series BAs? I would like to find more info, such as recording or release dates, etc.

This catalogue, which has been out of print for many years, lists all the many series of BA's by number and title, but only includes release dates for the British series.

My copy came from the CLPGS Bookshop, but it is no longer listed on the website. You could contact the Publications Director on [email protected] who may be able help locate another.

I cannot help with your request, but is it coincidental that I feel a bit surreal by your photo presentation?

If it was intended, then the implied surrealist I'm thinking of only sounds French.
Still, a hilarious concept, Vive la Lucius!

It is still possible that it's only my imagination suggesting a large apple.

The CLPGS Reference Series Issue No.6 "The Ultimate Cylinder Handbook" by Keith Harrison contains details of all the "foreign" Blue Amberol including the French issues but mostly does not include the release dates.

There was only little more than 200 cylinders released in the French BA series, (27001-27205, 27207 & 27214-27219) and many of these were previously release on wax Amberols.
You can find a list of these Amberols at the Truesound Online Discography, with cross references to their BA catalogue number.
This may help you with the actual recording date of some you have.

I assume that like the British series, no further titles were added to the French series after 1915, which narrows down the release dates to a 4 year period, and again I assume that those originally released on wax, were probably added to the BA catalogue during 1912-1913.
I know this isn't exactly the comprehensive information you were seeking, but it's a start and it's free.

Don't forget to also check the U of C cylinder preservation site, on the off chance they have one of your titles listed along with relevant information.
