What the heck is this and what was it intended for? Surely not for the steel needle in an exhibition reproducer as pictured

eBay Item #220387515647Play Diamond Discs on a Victor Phonograph — Adaptor
Here is a neat adaptor that you do not see very often. It allows you to play vertical cut records on a Victor Phonograph. I've had several different adaptors that work the opposite way, in that you can play regular 78's on a Edison Diamond Disc machine. This is the first one that I have had that works the other way around. As you can see it makes for an interesting look when installed. The adaptor will work with a Victor Exhibition reproducer, but I believe it was meant to be able to accept various reproducers. It has four slots in the end tube (reproducer side) to accommodate different pin locations. A proper stylus is recommended for playing vertical cut records (not a steel needle). This auction is for the adaptor only - Exhibition reproducer and tonearm not included. Thanks for bidding and please check out my other phonograph related auctions. Buyer to pay $5.85 shipping in USA.
