Thanks for sharing! That is a beautiful recording. Too bad alot of the early Wax Amberol artists did not make it over to Blue Amberol.

Just to add my thanks, Valecnik. This is one of my favourite cylinders; beautifully recorded and sung although Slezak was obvioulsy not comfortable singing in Italian.

I echo Victrolacollector's comments that it is agreat pity that not more Wax Amberol Grand Opera records were made into Blue Amberols. However, the City of London Phonograph and Gramophone Society is initiating a series of cylinder recordings taken from the Wax Amberol and two-minute Grand Opera series and made specially for us in an indestructible format by the Vulcan Phonograph Record Company. The first two releases will be Karl Jorn singing "Mein Leiber Schwann" from Lohengrin taken from WA 40025. The second issue will have two selections; Snr and SnrA Resky singing "Ditta Alla Gravina" from Traviata taken from two-minute Grand Opera No. B14 coupled with Constantino singing "La Donna e Mobile" from Rigoletto from two-minute Grand Opera No.B4. These two issues will be available from October with full details posted in the UK Trader section nearer the date.

CLPGS members will receive a substantial discount.

I have a "mint" copy of Slezak's E Lucevan le stelle and think it is the most impressive vocal cylinder that I have. It demonstrates the fidelity and volume a Blue Amberol was capable of. However, I thought the performance itself was rather sterile - he sang it straight without much feeling. Italian was not Slezak's native language, and it shows. I much prefer the emotional power that Caruso put into that song.
