Got this DD in a box of records and can't find it listed anywhere. Mr. Edison On The Essentialness of Music. It is matrix number 6245-A-2-4. It is one-sided and is an address by Sidney K. Powell. I've looked in my book Edison Disc Artists and records, Wile. and the on line discography and did't find it listed. Thanks, Jan

This may be a dealer record, for use in the showroom to go along with a sales campaign.
Here is what I've found...

Thanks, James. I did find it listed on the online discography. I guess I missed it the first time. I just have never seen a one sided DD. Did they make a lot of these? I know there are many one sided Victors and Columbias.

Double-check that matrix number. Are you sure it is not 6245?

This disc is mentioned briefly and pictured in the Collector's Guide. It is shown on the shield label and noted that it was recorded in June 1918. It is not explicitly noted as one-sided; thanks for that little tidbit.
There are very few truly one-sided Diamond Discs. A few dozen titles in the 8xxxx series were briefly released with nothing on the back. These show up very infrequently; I have seen only 2 in the last 2 years. These titles were generally re-released with a Harry Humphrey Explanatory Talk, although the etched label versions of these have no label on the Talk side.

Thank you for the information. I just started looking for and picking up a few records (other then the ones that came with machines that I had previously bought) so I have a lot to learn.
