Pathéphone N°2: Turn speed slowing down then stop

Hello everyone,

I previously bought a Pathéphone N°2.

Now I just bought some Pathé disc. However I can notice the Pathéphone can hardly finish the disc without slowing down then stop. When I hold slightly the tonearm, it speed up again. It seems the tonearm + the soundbox is too heavy for the small engine of the Pathéphone.

Is there a way to enhance the engine or relief the weight on the disc ? Any ideas are welcome !

You can find some pictures there: http://forum.talkingmachine.info/viewto ... =2&t=13373.

Cheers,

It sounds as though the spring doesn't have enough power to complete a record. It is either gummed up with old grease, and needs taking out and cleaning (not a job for the inexperienced!), or it may be worn out and need replacing. Worth getting it cleaned and regreased first, though.

Have you cleaned and re-lubricated the motor?

Besides solidified grease and metal fatigue in the mainspring, gummed up oil and wear in the gears and bearings can rob a motor of power.

Hello,

Here is the video of the Pathéphone.

We can hear it slowing down a bit but not that awful. I did not find the courage to relubricate the engine yet!

Cheers,
