Aeolian Vocalion Art Case model for trade

Hello,

I'm generally a lurker here, but will be traveling through the Northeast soon, and thought I would propose a trade. I have an Aeolian Vocalion Sheraton art case machine in the form of a demi-lune table. It is in restorable condition, mostly in parts. Here is the link to my flickr album of pictures: http://www.flickr.com/photos/57532378@N ... 948286158/

As you can see, it was painted at some point. The legs are not the originals, but are very similar. They do not mount to the cabinet in the same way as the originals, so some sort of modification would have to be done. Also the motor and motor board are from another machine, so a new motor board would have to be cut.

This is a beautiful machine, but what it needs is beyond what I can give it right now. Would anyone with more time and room to spare be interested in trading this for a complete, restorable Edison Amberola tabletop machine? (I have lots of Blue Amberols, but nothing to play them on.) If you live between Georgia and Massachusetts I'll probably be by your way in the first two weeks of September.

Thanks,

Jesse Pierce

That paint job must have been very attractive once.

If I had one I would do that for sure. It is a very pretty case.

Looks as though the paint job might have been done for the original owner by a third party?

And that inscription on the horn, though done much later, is precious - a bit of the machine's history.

Definitely - while the paint is attractive it is definitely not of factory quality - might even be a good amateur job.

Well even if no one wants to trade, I'm glad you all enjoy the pictures! I always assumed it was just a nice amateur paint job, as it appears to be applied right over the shellac finish. If there are no takers and I do get it at least assembled and working at some point I'll post follow up pictures. I've always been curious to hear what the sound would be like with a much longer horn than is typical for an internal horn machine.
