Rebuilding a model K

I have rebuilt a dozen K's in my life, but I have one that I just can't get right. I broke the diaphragm and am using a repro. I can not get the length of the stylus bar right. Does anyone know the trick to this? I am about to throw it in the trash!

I'd send it to Steven Medved, he has done an amazing job on several of my Edison reproducers.

I hate to give up on something. I just put it away for awhile, and will try again. There's got to be a way to measure the thing.
Thanks for the lead.

Well, I got it fixed. There should be an easy way to get that stylus bar the correct length the first time. I finally took another one apart, and measured it. There is not much room for error, and boy did that give me a headache. The best way to rebuild a K is to not punch a hole in the original diaphragm in the first place. Lesson learned.

Congratulations on staying with it until
you figured it out, and got it right!

With a good share of this stuff, when one wants it really precise and correct, the
only way is to take charge and do it
yourself.

I learned that the hard way......

Thanks for the kind words. I don't pay anyone to work on my Phonographs. That's half the enjoyment for me in this hobby, fixing it yourself.

When you say "stylus bar", are you referring to the linkage? That is, the wire that connects the two stylus bars to the diaphragm via a swivel?

Yes. That is what I am referring to. Didn't know what to call it.
