Cleaning Diamond Discs--from "back in the day"

I picked up about 100 diamond discs someone had last packed up in 1986 and am in the process of unpacking, cleaning, testing, and (for usable ones) re-sleeving them. (The original sleeves have turned pretty much into fragments.) One of the sleeves has the following stamped on it:

If records become soiled and
need cleaning, wipe with cloth
dampened with alcohol. Wipe
dry with small piece of silk velvet.
DON'T USE WATER

Found that interesting, and seems to confirm my own experience that alcohol is the way to go.
