I live just outside of Memphis. I have messaged the seller and asked for a first hand look at the machine. Maybe I'll get lucky. Thanks for posting and thanks to 52089 for alerting me.

Is this Circassian or American walnut? I'm really tempted to bid!

I'm sure there is some overlap between Circassian and American walnut but I believe a Victrola this early will always be found in Circassian. I believe Circassian was used until WW-1 cut off the supply of Circassian. Jerry

If you compare it to this pic of a circassian walnut L-DOOR VV-XVI...
...it looks VERY similar...

That looks like Raphaels. Can't make no comparison there. If your talking about the wood, I think the same. I have a bid on it.

I see it is now up to $1,415 with 5 days still to go. If it is Circassian (looks like it to me), I'll be surprised if it goes for less than twice that.

This has got to be a pretty rare find. When it was first offered in 1908, per LFTD Circassian Walnut was a $50 option (more than $1,000 in current dollars). Something most any serious phonograph collector should be thrilled to have in their collection.

For future viewers of this thread long after the eBay listing is gone, here is the picture from the listing.

I am the top bidder. I will go a little more, but you have to know when is enough. I have always wanted a Walnut L door, just never had the chance at one for a working mans price. I think at the end, someone with deep pockets will come in and snatch it up. Anyone want to take a guess at the ending price? I say 5500.00.
