Can anyone associate a model name / number and approximate vintage with this style Grafonola ?

The lid strikes me as a bit unusual ?

As far as I can see, it's a "New Columbia" Model 460, introduced in 1924. It was listed as available in brown mahogany or walnut with gold trim, with a Non-set automatic stop, New Columbia reproducer, tilting record trays, hidden record storage in back, and a four spring motor.

Does this match up with your machine?

These pics are from a 2009 auction off the web. Did you buy it back then??. I have had and seen many of these. The last one here sold for less than $150. Very common post WW1 upright. Here is a past thread on one.

It looked different from the usual spate of G-fonolas, especially the lid, which has kind of an Eldridge Johnson "you're not going to use MY talking machine for a table" look...

Is it safe to assume that all these upright G-fonolas are similar mechanically, and fairly stout, with most troubles being related to the tone-arm and PMD (Pot Metal Disease) ?

I've not seen one of these later ones, but the lid looks just the same as Columbia L-2. The outside is also similar to an L-3 with the most obvious difference being the lack on the inlay around the record storage doors. These may be common in Canada, but I've never seen one of these in the flesh here.
