Victor horn decal question

Hello all,

I noticed a Victor horn on eBay recently that mostly looks authentic, but the decal looks as though it might have been printed on foil, which makes me wonder. Were they originally done that way? Almost looks like a foil sticker somebody put on it at some point. The graphics seem a bit crude too.

Could it be the remains of an older decal from a possible restoration attempt in the past?
Might be the real deal..only very worn.

Compare it to some modern equivalents from Eduardo...

The silver is part of the original decal. If you've ever stripped a cabinet with the remnants of an old decal, there is silver underneath many decals. (Yes, the finish and decal were beyond saving!) I don't know the manufacturing process of the old decals. It's just an observation. Jerry

Eduardo is a genius! As posted previously, I just bought one of his horns, and it is very hard even to imagine a better job.

Does he have a website?

The decal on my Victor-III is in even worse condition with only the silver left...it will show where the new decal will go , but there's nothing left of the back ground colour to indicate which colour decal that is required..

I bought the horn in question. I am pretty pleased with it over all. Structurally sound and presentable, with a nicely worn patina. I have also ordered a new decal from Eduardo, which hasn't arrived yet. Now I am having second thoughts about installing the new one or leaving the original (which is pictured at the top of this thread). Opinions?

Clay,
I have a Vic.II with a horn that had a decal with the same issues. I bought a decal from Eduardo and applied it directly over the original, which lined it up nicely on the horn and covered the original completely with no sign of the original underneath. It looks great and is indistinguishable from the original. For what it's worth, I like it, but it is now a perfect decal that shows no age, not everyones cup of tea. Mike

Are Eduardo's decals better than Gregg Cline's? Jerry
