Is there a way to release the drawers in an Amberola 1-A or B and remove them from the cabinet? Thanks for any tips. Jerry Blais

If they are anything like the drawers on early DD machines, you should be able to pull them out as far as possible, then tilt them up, whereupon you can remove them…

Interesting - the drawers on my 1A pull straight out with no resistance or stop. They are also marked on the back of the rear vertical slat with numbers - 206-1, 206-2, etc., but my machine is not s/n 206.

Jerry;
Both my early and late 1A have metal L-shaped brackets attached to the back of the drawers. You can see the screw heads when you open the drawers.You have to reach in and unscrew the brackets off.Hope that this helps.

The drawers on my 1A have the same brackets. I haven't had them out yet, but I can see that there's not much room to work with on the top one. However once you get that one out, you'll have plenty of room to work with on the others.

Thanks for the suggestions about removing the brackets. My grandson has long skinny arms. I'll get him right on it! Thanks, Jerry

Jerry, I have an Amberola 1A cabinet that was converted for use a diamond disc machine. We discussed it here a couple of years back in this thread:
http://forum.talkingmachine.info/viewto ... &hilit=250
The drawers are the original cylinder drawers repurposed for discs. If you look at the pictures posted in that thread, you will see that (on my machine) there are metal pins that friction fit in holes at the upper back of the drawer sides. You can reach in and pull the pins back to allow the drawer to be removed. I just checked and with a flashlight you can look in the drawer and see the pins.
Sounds like there are variants to how the drawers were held in. This is how mine are configured.
Hope it helps.
