Just to promote my move to Dailymotion, here are a couple of recent acquisitions: both 7 inch Victors….

The first is another 7 inch "Monarch": #A-485, "A Mosquito Parade", played by Vess Ossman. The EDVR only lists takes 1 and 2 of this recording, from 11/1/1900. This copy, however, is clearly listed as take 3, and is from 1901, from what I can see of the date:

The second is an example of a factory mix-up. The label is as shown:



but the actual recording is #1326, "Rip van Winkle Was a Lucky Man", sung by Dan W. Quinn:

Thanks for posting these -- they're both awesome! The Ossman is some spare pickin' (for Ossman) and it's really enjoyable to hear him play with such deft simplicity. As regards the label mix-up, that's lucky, in my book at least. I like Myers (used to have his early smash hit "Violets" on a Berliner 7-inch). But I fell for Quinn with his "Nothing's Too Good For the Irish" and "I Need the Money" cylinders about the time that they were new (seems like), and I've never heard him sing anything that wasn't entertaining. Can't say that about Myers (q.v. "Violets" lol).

I think the move to DailyMotion is a good one, because really, it's readily accessible and Google doesn't need to own everything in the whole wide world.

My favorite Quinn is "I Couldn't", which I had on Edison cylinder and hope to find again someday.

Thanks for the plug for dailymotion. I am not fond of the recent changes to Youtube, particularly the semi-required Google+ nonsense, so I'll probably start moving my stuff over to dailymotion after the holidays.

Update: I examined the Ossman record as closely as possible, and the recording date seems to be 5 - 16 - 1901.

Directly below that are inscribed the numbers 2 - 5 - 17 (that last might be a 7 with a serif - I'm not sure.)

Does anyone have further info?
