Which is more robust? Early Victor or later Victor motors?

I have a early VV-VI (forward crank) with double spring motor. This machine gives me about 2 plays per winding. The motor runs noisier.
I have a VV-IX with the double spring motor that gives me about 3 plays per winding. The motor is relatively quiet. This is the motor which has the needle pointer for speed control.
I am wondering between the two style double spring motors, which is more robust for every day playing of records. I just get a feeling the between the two, VV-IX is the best candidate for playing 78's on a daily basis.
I also feel the early motor may be more fragile than the later, and parts harder to get for the early VV-VI.
Any thoughts?
