Edison C250 with 3-12" Edison Sample Records

Brought home an Edison C250 today, nice oak finish with 2 matching storage drawers. Bought this from the great grandson of the original owner. It was full of records including 3-12" Edison Sample Records (No. 9, 10, & 11). I've seen pictures of them but these are my first. Very excited about that!

Also there were about 100 or so 10" Diamond Discs and more than half of them had the correct sleeves describing the songs on the records. I'm thinking this was an unpicked bunch of records that were original to the machine. There were no 52000 numbered discs so it was probably put away by the mid 1920s. A few 57000 series discs with original sleeves, not sure I've seen any from that series before.

Yes excellent find. Some picture would be nice. If I recall correctly 57000 is the German series?

The 57000 series are indeed German, I just pulled a bunch of these from my collection to throw on eBay eventually since hearing them once was enough for me

Cliff,
It was nice of you to post the pictures of the 12" sample records. I've heard of them, but have never seen one. They must be super rare. You are very fortunate to get these.

I'm kind of bummed because my C150, which is set up to digitize Diamond Discs, won't swing all the way over to play a 12" record. Never had that issue before. About ½" shy of going to the edge of the groove so I miss about the 1st half of the first sample on all six sides. CDB

Sean,

I found a few of those on ebay a few months ago and was rather intrigued by the quality of the sound, someway the vocalist were very well recorded as well as the band pieces. I wonder if they were recorded in a different studio than others?

I found something else in this machine I've never seen before. Apparently, these machines came with numbered record dividers, 50 per drawer. Also a record index/instruction page. In this machine was 1 complete set of dividers, 1 index, and a 70% complete 2nd set. Cool!

Can you remove the top frame to allow more clearance? (or IS there a frame on the C150?) ...

Also, my 250 has the dividers & index card setup, but my dividers are without the tab at the bottom - just plain rectangles, which leave part of each record to scratch against the next!

Your 3 Sample Records are prolly worth more than the phono - I paid a lot for just one.
